A massage therapist with a passion for science.

Scott B. Crawford is both.
 

Holding multiple degrees and certifications in physical therapy, massage therapy, personal training, yoga and Pilates, Scott has spent 25 years making therapeutic wellness his total focus. He is the founder and developer of numerous spa and wellness brands including SOMA Get Fit, Santa Barbara Sparkling Spa, 805 Massage Company, Massage Collective and Princess Tabs, Inc. He directs all aspects of the properties in his portfolio, from unique branding to innovative design and scalable business models.

Fitness Licensures

Scott holds fitness licenses from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Stott Pilates (Mat, Reformer, Cadillac and V2 Max) and the Cooper
Institute, which is internationally recognized for its work in preventative medicine and fitness. His bodywork certifications include The Body Therapy Institute’s 200-hour program in massage therapy, Santa Barbara Bodyworks’ Holistic Health Practitioner 1000-hour program, and certifications through the California Massage Therapy Council and the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards. He is also a certified hatha yoga instructor, trained by Santa Barbara’s White Lotus Foundation. He was a GIFT Fellow at The Gray Institute, from which he received certification in Applied Functional Science. He additionally studied under Perry Holloman at Esalen Institute, and with Anatomy Trains author Tom Myers in Walpole, Maine.

Early Life and Education

After graduating from Brookhaven College in 1997 with an Associate's degree in psychology, Scott attended graduate school at Dallas Theological Seminary where he completed Master’s degrees in theology and psychology. He went on to study clinical psychology with an emphasis in somatic psychology in the Ph.D. program at Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. He also studied clinical psychology as a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of San Diego, specializing in sports psychology. He is a licensed marriage family counselor in California.

Soccer Career

From 1994 to 2001, Scott played for four professional teams: the Texas Toros, Dallas Burn, Dallas Sidekicks, and Texas Lightning. He went on to get his International Premier Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as well as a National “A” License from the United States Soccer Federation.

He has coached boys’ and girls’ teams for the Dallas Comets Soccer Club and the Santa Barbara Soccer Club. There, he helped young players hone their skills and win scholarships to top college programs. He went on to get his International Premier Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as well as a National “A” License from the United States Soccer Federation.

Personal Trainer Career

Scott began his career in personal training in 2002 at Trophy Fitness in Dallas, Texas. In 2005, he moved to California where his positions would include 24 Hour Fitness in Santa Barbara, Spectrum Health Club (master/elite trainer), The Ritz-Carlton Bacara Resort and Spa (Wellness Choreographer for VIP clients), Platinum Fitness in Montecito/Summerland (functional trainer alongside Peter Park, trainer to Lance Armstrong), Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, The Sports Club/LA, West Hollywood Spa and Beverly Hills Equinox Clubs.

Scott was selected as a brand ambassador for Lululemon Athletica.

SOMA Get Fit and The Lifestyle

Scott founded SOMA Get Fit, a luxury fitness and wellness retreat program, in
Santa Barbara in 2007.

 

The program has hosted numerous celebrity clients including Michelle Williams, Kelsey Grammar, Jackie Sandler, Princess of Monaco Charlene Wittstock, Clive Davis, Katharina Damm, Rashida Jones, Michael Jordan, Avery Johnson, Daphnee Guinness (heir of Guinness beer), Billy Baldwin, Dallas Clark, Calvin Klein, Yvette Prieto, Janice Dickinson, Katy Perry, Liberty Ross, John Sykes, Sheyene Gerardi, Priyanka Chopra, Rick Warren, Tracy Wyle, Kate Somerville, Andrew Weir and Sandy Lam. SOMA Get Fit has been featured in more than 30 regional and national publications, including Marie Claire, Sunset, Angeleno, Santa Barbara Visitor’s Magazine, Alaska Air Magazine, and The Hollywood Reporter.

 

In 2011, Scott partnered with the exclusive La Prairie Switzerland Spas at The Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air, members of the Dorchester Collection brand of luxury hotels, where he created his custom wellness retreat program, THE LIFESTYLE by Scott Crawford.

The successful program was sold to The Beverly Hills Hotel in 2013. Scott continues to consult for top-tier hotels such as the Santa Ynez Inn, where he led teams in buying, design, spa menu creation, and complete staff training. He also provides therapeutic wellness treatments to select clients.
